Norris Uncertain Whether McLaren Can Resolve Straight-Lane Speed Deficit for Singapore Race
Lando Norris has acknowledged difficulty correcting a performance deficit affecting his car ahead of the upcoming Singapore Grand Prix.
The reigning World Champion recently enjoyed a strong run with three pole positions and two victories across four races surrounding the summer break.
Recent outcomes, however, have been less encouraging; Norris scored fifth when qualifying for Azerbaijan and only managed ninth in an error‑riddled outing in Malaysia during the Bahrain‑Grand‑Prix round.
The shortfall in straight‑line speed appears linked to issues with his power unit, although the precise technical cause remains undisclosed by the team.

Despite upgrades to their chassis, McLaren’s George Russell secured a dominant win at Azerbaijan, while Max Verstappen continued Red Bull’s upward momentum in Malaysia.
Team principal Andrea Stella observed that the competitive landscape evolves swiftly, noting that key tactical adjustments saw McLaren reach pole and victory in Madrid prior to virtual‑safety‑car incidents.
He stressed that the team is actively assessing development, acknowledging no anomalies exist in their telemetry, yet suggesting that rivals may have progressed further in their engineering advances.
Stella emphasized confidence that specific environmental factors in Malaysia could have contributed to the irregularities and advocated granting the situation additional observation time to discern clearer trends.
