ISLAMABAD: Pakistani naval units have recovered additional wreckage from the cargo plane that crashed into the Arabian Sea earlier this week, with investigators set to examine the debris as the search for the five missing crew members enters its third day. The Pakistan Airports Authority announced on X that search‑and‑rescue operations conducted by the Pakistan Navy and the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency remain ongoing in deep waters, employing aircraft and other assets to locate the missing crew. No further details were provided, and updates will be released later. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
The flight, operated by Karachi‑based private carrier K2 Airways, vanished from radar late Tuesday at approximately 9:21 p.m., about 287 kilometres west of Karachi, after a sharp heading change and rapid descent. The navy recovered initial debris on Wednesday roughly 100 kilometres off the coast near Ormara in Balochistan province, but the main fuselage and all crew members remain missing. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered authorities to deploy all available resources to locate the missing crew, while K2 Airways has pledged full cooperation with civil aviation investigators. Rough seas, strong winds and shifting currents have complicated search efforts, dispersing floating debris across a wide area. The authority noted that radar data indicated a sudden maneuver before contact was lost.
