Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Qatar on Monday for a one‑day visit to express condolences on the death of former Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
The Prime Minister’s Office said that PML‑N President Nawaz Sharif accompanied the premier, along with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar.
Upon landing at Doha airport, the Pakistani delegation was received by Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan bin Ali Al Thani.
PM Shehbaz is scheduled to meet Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the son of the late Sheikh Hamad, at Lusail Palace, where he will convey his sympathy to the Emir, the royal family, and the people of Qatar.
The visit underscores the long‑standing, close ties between the governments and peoples of Pakistan and Qatar.
Qatar announced on Sunday that former Emir Sheikh Hamad, who led the country from 1995 to 2013, had died at the age of 74. He was widely recognized as a key architect of modern Qatar’s rapid economic development.
Pakistan announced a day of mourning, with the national flag to be flown at half‑mast, as per a Cabinet Division notification shared by the PMO.
The prime minister is also expected to discuss recent U.S.–Iran tensions, which have challenged ongoing peace mediation efforts led by Pakistan and Qatar.
