The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) closed higher on Friday as value buying spurred a recovery in select stocks. The benchmark KSE‑100 Index rose 575 points to settle near 177,170.

The PSX logged a positive session, with the KSE‑100 Index gaining 575 points (+0.33% day‑over‑day) to close at 177,167.

During the session, the power sector led the rebound, with HUBC attracting value buyers after a nearly 14% decline from its recent peak of Rs227.9 on August 10. Ali Najib, Deputy Head of Trading at Arif Habib Ltd, noted that the stock’s price around Rs200 offered an attractive dividend yield of about 10%, supported by a diversified portfolio across growth businesses, which further reinforced investor interest.

Anticipation of a refinery agreement, expected to be signed within the next ten days, lifted the sector, with PRL and CNERGY both hitting their upper circuits (+10%).

On the corporate front, ENGROH reported second‑quarter FY26 earnings per share of Rs7.45, a 70% year‑on‑year decline and a 7% quarter‑on‑quarter drop.

The index’s biggest contributors were OGDC, HUBC, ATRL, SRVI, PPL, MARI, CNERGY, LUCK, FATIMA and PSO, which together added 672 points to the benchmark.

Overall market activity stayed subdued, with a total volume of 677 million shares and turnover of Rs35.5 billion. CNERGY led trading volumes, accounting for 250 million shares.

For the week, the KSE‑100 finished lower, dropping 2,938 points (‑1.63% week‑over‑week) to close at 177,167. The index fluctuated between an intraday high of 181,159 and a low of 176,111, as profit‑taking and renewed geopolitical uncertainty weighed on sentiment.

Looking ahead, heightened volatility and selective profit‑taking are expected, with geopolitical developments and oil‑price movements continuing to drive market direction.
