Pakistan’s Anti‑Human Smuggling Strategy Recognized as Global Model

ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Interior Tallal Chaudhry said on Saturday that Pakistan’s approach to combating illegal migration has become a worldwide model, with the European Union noting a sharp decline in irregular migration from the country.

Addressing the high‑level meeting of the Global Alliance to Counter Migrant Smuggling in Vienna, Chaudhry credited the measures implemented under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi for achieving a 47 percent reduction in illegal migration.

“Pakistan’s successful strategy against illegal migration has become a model for the world,” the interior ministry said in a statement.

The minister emphasized that irregular migration is “not merely a border issue but a global challenge,” stressing the need for a coordinated international response and expanded opportunities for legal migration.

“Modern technology, intelligence sharing, and a coordinated strategy are essential tools in combating human smuggling,” Chaudhry added, noting that curbing irregular migration also requires promoting “safe, orderly, and legal migration.”

Delegates at the Global Alliance meeting also commended the Federal Investigation Agency for its effective efforts against illegal migration and human smuggling.
