Panama’s Comptroller General announced on Friday that additional audit materials related to former executives of CK Hutchison’s local subsidiary will be forwarded to prosecutors next week, escalating the ongoing criminal investigation into the Hong Kong conglomerate’s terminated Panama Canal ports concession.
During a presentation at the Atlantic Council in Washington, Anel Flores detailed that prosecutors have specifically requested documentation concerning the Panama Ports Company (PPC), which operated the Balboa and Cristobal terminals at both ends of the canal until February of this year.
The investigation materials extend beyond former PPC leadership to include former board members of the Panama Maritime Authority, the regulatory body responsible for overseeing the now-cancelled concession agreement.
