Mars Petcare US announced a voluntary recall of two specific lots of Pedigree High Protein Chopped Chicken & Duck Flavor dog food on July 2, following concerns over potential sharp metal and plastic contamination in 13.2 oz cans.

The recalled products are identified by lot codes 613C3KKCFC and 613C1KKCFC. These batches failed to meet the company’s safety and quality standards during routine inspections, leading to their initial disposal through a third-party vendor.

However, the company later discovered that the affected inventory had been fraudulently redirected and distributed in the U.S. market. Mars emphasized that the presence of sharp foreign materials in the cans could pose significant health hazards to dogs, including choking, internal lacerations, or gastrointestinal blockages.

Consumers are advised to immediately discontinue use of the affected products and contact Pedigree for a full replacement. Pet owners who have already fed the recalled food to their animals are encouraged to seek veterinary consultation if health concerns arise.

To date, no injuries or illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled products. Mars Petcare stated it is collaborating with regulatory agencies to investigate how the diverted products entered the marketplace and remains committed to ensuring consumer safety.
