The Pittsburgh Penguins have acquired forward David Gustafsson from the Winnipeg Jets in exchange for defenseman Jack St. Ivany, as announced today by President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Kyle Dubas.
Gustafsson is currently a pending restricted free agent.
During the 2025-26 season with the Manitoba Moose, Gustafsson contributed 10 goals and 22 assists in 48 games, leading the team with a 0.67 points-per-game average and ranking third in assists. He also played seven Calder Cup Playoff matches, adding four points (1 goal, 3 assists).
Over seven seasons with the Winnipeg Jets organization (2019-26), split between NHL and AHL, Gustafsson has played 149 regular-season NHL games for 20 points (6 goals, 14 assists) and 91 AHL points (34 goals, 57 assists).
Born in Tingsryd, Sweden, Gustafsson began his career in the SHL, Sweden’s top league, for two seasons (2017-19). He has represented Sweden internationally, earning a bronze medal at the 2020 World Junior Championship and 2018 World Under-18 Championship.
Gustafsson was selected by the Winnipeg Jets in the second round (60th overall) of the 2018 NHL Draft.
