Disney+ is set to showcase the third season of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” at Italy’s Lucca Comics & Games Festival. Stars Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries, and Aryan Simhadri will join co-creator and executive producer Jonathan E. Steinberg and executive producer Dan Shotz for a dedicated panel featuring exclusive, never-before-seen footage.
Based on Rick Riordan’s third novel, “The Titan’s Curse,” the upcoming season follows Percy Jackson (Scobell), Grover Underwood (Simhadri), and their fellow Camp Half-Blood demigods — alongside new allies — as they embark on a perilous quest to rescue Annabeth Chase (Jeffries) and the goddess Artemis (Dafne Keen) from the Titan Atlas (Holt McCallany).
Running from Oct. 28 to Nov. 1, Lucca Comics draws over 200,000 attendees annually to the Tuscan town of Lucca, a historic setting enclosed by perfectly preserved 16th and 17th-century ramparts.
This year’s lineup also features Aardman Animations co-founder Peter Lord and director Peter Walker for the Italian premiere of “Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom.” Acclaimed Japanese filmmaker Kore-eda Hirokazu will attend to discuss adapting Fujimoto Tatsuki’s manga “Look Back,” a project merging live-action realism with the manga creative process.
Warner Bros. Pictures Animation will utilize the festival’s Movie Area to debut the latest Dr. Seuss adaptation, “The Cat in the Hat,” with directors Erica Rivinoja and Alessandro Carloni in attendance. Comics legend Frank Miller, creator of “The Dark Knight Returns,” returns for a screening of the documentary “Frank Miller: American Genius,” accompanied by creative partner Silenn Thomas.
Japanese anime producer Hibiki Minagawa will present the international premiere of Toei Animation’s “Star Detective Precure – The Movie!” Director Naoya Ando will also screen “Gintama: Yoshiwara in Flames,” a new animated feature retelling the iconic manga arc with original subplots.
Dedicated to fandom, cosplay, role-playing games, and the cross-media comics universe, Lucca has evolved into a critical European promotional hub for Hollywood studios since the inception of its Movie Area strand 16 years ago.
