Perth Scorchers XI have bolstered their roster for the 2026 Global Super League by including West Indies spin regular Akeal Hosein and Pakistan’s left-arm wrist spinner Sufyan Moqim, marking the six-time Big Bash League champions’ debut in the tournament.

The third edition of the Global Super League will take place from July 23 to August 1 at Providence Stadium in Guyana, featuring five franchise teams representing the world’s premier T20 leagues. Perth Scorchers XI will compete alongside defending champions Guyana Amazon Warriors, Lahore Qalandars, Desert Vipers, and debutants San Francisco Unicorns in a round-robin format, with a US$1 million prize pool at stake.

Ashton Turner, the regular captain, will lead the Perth Scorchers XI squad in Guyana, supported by pace spearhead Jhye Richardson and all-rounder Aaron Hardie. Given Adam Voges’ prior commitment to Trent Rockets in The Hundred, Simon Katich has been appointed as the stand-in head coach.

When does Perth Scorchers XI’s GSL debut begin?

Perth Scorchers XI will open their GSL debut against Lahore Qalandars on Thursday, July 23 at Providence Stadium. Subsequent matches include encounters with the San Francisco Unicorns on Sunday, July 26, the Desert Vipers on Tuesday, July 28, and the Guyana Amazon Warriors on Wednesday, July 29. The group stage leader advances straight to the final, while the second and third-placed teams will contest a qualifier.

What experience do Akeal Hosein and Sufyan Moqim bring to the Scorchers XI?

Akeal Hosein, a pivotal figure in the West Indies’ white-ball setup and one of franchise cricket’s most dependable left-arm spinners, brings extensive global league experience and control to the Scorchers XI, complementing Jhye Richardson’s pace. Meanwhile, Sufyan Moqim, a rare left-arm wrist spinner who debuted for Pakistan in T20Is in October 2023, has established himself as a regular selection for Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League.

Perth Scorchers XI will represent the third Australian franchise in the Global Super League, following Cricket Victoria and the Hobart Hurricanes. Defending champions Guyana Amazon Warriors, victors of the 2025 edition, will look to retain their title, while Rangpur Riders, winners of the inaugural 2024 tournament, aim to reclaim glory.
