Right fielder Esmerlyn Valdez has been brightening Pittsburgh Pirates’ offensive line since his debut, delivering a performance that anchored the team’s victories on Saturday’s doubleheader against the Milwaukee Brewers.
In the first game, Valdez erased the early deficit with a two‑hole homer in the third inning, his second consecutive day with a long ball. He followed that burst with a grand slam as the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, propelling the Pirates to a 7‑6 win.
The second game saw Valdez start the action with a two‑run homer in the fourth, in what had been a scoreless duel through that point. His third homer of the day—a solo blast—completed a 3‑2 triumph for Pittsburgh, giving the club a 1‑0 sweep of the Brewers.
Across both contests, Valdez went 4‑for‑8, collecting three home runs, eight RBIs and three runs scored. His tally of ten homers in his first 27 games tops the record for any Pirates player in their initial 27 games.
Valdez is currently batting .330, has amassed 10 home runs and 26 RBIs, and continues to be a key contributor as Pittsburgh inches toward a 49‑47 overall record. The club now holds the possibility of sweeping Milwaukee in the final game before the All-Star break on Sunday.
