Eighteen racing and test riders, including several newcomers, participated in the session, evaluating soft, medium, and hard compound slick tires. The testing utilized both prototype 850 cc machines and suitably adapted current‑generation 1000 cc bikes.
At the Red Bull Ring in Austria, Pirelli successfully wrapped another phase of its development program for the tires that will equip the 2027 FIM Grand Prix World Championship, marking the firm’s transition to an exclusive tire‑supply role for the premier class.
A total of 18 racing and test riders, including several rookies, took part in the session. They were Johann Zarco, Diogo Moreira and Takaaki Nakagami for Honda; Toprak Razgatlıoğlu, Jack Miller, Izan Guevara and Augusto Fernández for Yamaha; Marc Márquez, Franco Morbidelli and Fermín Aldeguer for Ducati; Marco Bezzecchi, Raúl Fernández and Lorenzo Savadori for Aprilia; and Pedro Acosta, Brad Binder, Pol Espargaró, Maverick Viñales and Senna Agius for KTM.
Giorgio Barbier, Pirelli Motorcycle Racing Director, commented: “The session at the Red Bull Ring marks another important step in developing Pirelli’s tire range for the 2027 FIM Grand Prix World Championship, when we will assume the exclusive‑supplier role in MotoGP after our successful partnership in Moto2 and Moto3. Our development effort blends collective testing, like today’s event, with private work carried out together with the manufacturers. It will culminate in the first official 2027 tests set for early December in Valencia, involving all next‑season race riders. We are pleased with the Austrian test outcomes. The riders—including several rookies who offered valuable alternative perspectives—were able to assess soft, medium and hard compound slicks at both front and rear positions, using prototype 850 cc bikes and adapted 1000 cc machines. The feedback was largely positive, highlighting strong grip and stability. This data will help us refine the program and pinpoint the exact characteristics of the range we will deliver for the upcoming season. The test occurred under stable, sunny conditions with track temperatures ranging from 19 °C to 38 °C. Pirelli supplied soft, medium and hard compound slick tires for both front and rear positions, allowing teams to shape their individual testing plans. A progressive approach was recommended, starting with the soft compounds before progressing to the harder options.
The session featured both prototype 850 cc machines and a number of current‑generation 1000 cc bikes adapted to simulate the 2027 technical configuration. Pirelli engineers worked closely with the manufacturers, teams and riders throughout the test, gathering data and technical feedback that will drive the continued development and refinement of the tire range for the 2027 FIM Grand Prix World Championship.
