F1 president and CEO Stefano Domenicali announced the extension of Pirelli’s tire contract for Formula 1 through 2028, praising the longstanding partnership and Pirelli’s commitment to performance, innovation, and sustainability. “We’ve shared an incredible history with Pirelli, and their technical excellence continues to drive our sport forward,” Domenicali stated.
Pirelli narrowly secured the renewed partnership, fending off a competitive bid from Japan’s Bridgestone, which had contested the contract. While 2028 was initially speculated as the potential end of Pirelli’s tenure, ongoing discussions suggest the company is open to extending its collaboration beyond this milestone.
The FIA will initiate a formal tender process to select future tire suppliers, involving technical evaluations from interested firms and commercial negotiations finalized by F1’s governing body.
