In sweltering 30°C heat, 22,141 fans donned tight plastic bald caps, white shirts, and black ties in Hyde Park, London, to celebrate rapper Pitbull’s BST Festival performance and set a Guinness World Record for the “largest gathering of people wearing bald caps.”
“I’m speechless. Who would have thought a first-generation Cuban would be record-breaking and record-making?” Pitbull said, accepting the award in an all-black suit before his performance.
To qualify, Pitbull wore a bald cap himself, as the record required participants to impersonate his iconic look. Guinness adjudicator Will Munford confirmed the count using 400 volunteers and drone footage with 42 counters for precision.
“I went to three different fancy-dress shops this week and they were all sold out,” said Lucy, 30, who attended with her friend Hannah. “I didn’t want to stick out in a sea of bald caps. It felt like an inside joke with 60,000 people.”
The record attempt originated from fan Jack Remmington, who jokingly proposed a viral TikTok challenge. His idea caught Guinness World Records’ attention, leading Pitbull to agree.
“This isn’t novelty,” Munford noted, emphasizing the record’s inclusivity and the rise of a dedicated online community. The trend began in 2021 with a few playful fans, exploding into a global movement as Pitbull branded his followers the “baldies” and sold official merchandise—now sold out.
Shawna and Jack, both 33, attended for nostalgia: “It’s the least pretentious crowd I’ve experienced. When the world feels heavy, dancing to pop hits in a bald cap feels uplifting.”
At sunset, Pitbull was visibly moved by the sea of impersonators. “It’s a blessing and an honor to see the baldies in London,” he remarked, engaging the crowd with every lyric.
