Parkway manager Karl Curtis, a Tottenham Hotspur supporter, understands what it takes to succeed in the FA Cup.
Although their position in the third tier of non-league football excluded them from the earliest qualifying rounds, Curtis’s side has navigated two challenging away matches against similarly ranked opponents before defeating National League South club Horsham in the previous round.
“We travelled to Gosport and had to secure a win there, which was no easy task, and we also visited Frome Town despite never having beaten them before,” he said.
“Then we faced Horsham, a team from a higher division, and managed to beat them on our home ground.”
“Now we host Chertsey at home on Saturday; the match promises to be just as demanding as the Horsham encounter, even though they sit in the same division as us, we are aware of their strengths.”
“Having already secured three victories in this stage of the competition, we need just one more win to reach the first round, which for us feels like an FA Cup final.”
“We previously labelled the previous match as our FA Cup semi‑final, but now the focus is entirely on reaching the final, and Saturday’s game represents that final for us.”
Should Parkway be drawn alongside Argyle in Monday’s first‑round draw, where would they prefer the tie to be hosted?
“From a playing perspective I’d favour hosting the match here, but financially it would make more sense to travel to Argyle,” said chairman Russell.
“Naturally, we would prefer a home draw against any opponent, given our familiarity with the pitch.”
“However, when facing a larger club, playing at their stadium offers valuable experience for the players.”
