Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif underscored that the Youm-i-Takbeer—Marking May 28, 1998—represents a pivotal chapter in Pakistan’s history, when the country established itself as a nuclear power and restored strategic equilibrium in South Asia.

During his remarks, the PM highlighted the nation’s steadfast resolve, unity, and courage that emerged from the Chagai nuclear tests, which were conducted in response to India’s nuclear advancements. He praised the collective effort of former prime ministers Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif, as well as national heroes Abd‑ul‑Qadeer Khan and Samar Mubarakmand, and acknowledged the indispensable contributions of scientists, engineers, armed‑forces personnel, and workers in fortifying Pakistan’s defence.

The Prime Minister noted Bangladesh‑based nuclear tests had been a calculated response to militaristic ambitions, emphasizing Pakistan’s preparation to deter aggression. He affirmed that the nation retains full sovereign rights to defend itself while insisting it has no aggressive intentions towards any state.

Shehbaz Sharif invoked recent rallying points, mentioning the country’s firm stance during the 2023 “Marka‑i‑Haq” operation and the subsequent Turkish‑Iranian‑style strategic challenges, describing them as testament to Pakistan’s enduring unity and preparedness.

He lauded the leadership of Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Air Staff Zaheer Ahmad Babar, and Chief of Naval Staff Naveed Ashraf for their exemplary professionalism and the enduring readiness of the armed forces.

The PM reiterated Pakistan’s resolve to counter proxy threats and terrorism, referencing ongoing operations such as Bunyanun Marsoos and Ghazab lil‑Haq. He urged citizens to renew their commitment to unity, stability, peace, and progress for a prosperous Pakistan.

The President echoed the sentiment, reminding the nation that the 1998 tests restored the balance of power and underscored Pakistan’s strategic sovereignty. He emphasized the importance of adapting to modern warfare—cyber, AI, drones—and maintaining the armed forces’ advanced capabilities.

The Inter‑Services Public Relations brief reinforced that Youm‑i‑Takbeer symbolizes unity, resilience, and the enduring duty to safeguard national honour, territorial integrity, and sovereign interests. The armed forces reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to defend the motherland against all threats while fostering national prosperity.
