Premier League Team of the Week: Coventry, Villa, and Everton Stars Shine Amid Weekend Surprises

The breadth of the Premier League is represented in this week’s team of the week, following strong seasonal openings by Aston Villa, Everton, and Coventry.

The Premier League delivered a compelling weekend, which is immediately apparent when examining the team of the week, calculated based on WhoScored’s rating system.

Despite Brentford’s impressive 3-0 victory over Chelsea, they only feature one player in the team: defender Jannick Schuster, who secured a clean sheet and provided an assist. Everton also have two representatives in the back line, as Ainsley Maitland-Niles and James Tarkowski were instrumental in the Toffees’ goalless win against Ipswich.

Jay Dasilva completes the defensive line at left back, having scored Coventry’s opening goal of the season against Nottingham Forest to secure the club’s first three points of the campaign.

Pascal Gross anchors the midfield of the team, with his second stint at Brighton potentially exceeding his first. Following his contributions in midweek’s cup victory over Manchester United, the midfielder was exceptional once again as the Seagulls stunned Arsenal with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over the weekend.

Attacking Selections Following a High-Scoring Weekend

Aston Villa boast three forwards in the attacking selections after their early Saturday victory over Tottenham. Johan Manzambi, Nicolas Jackson, and Emi Buendi found the net as Unai Emery’s side launched their season with a solid away triumph.

Alongside Jackson, Brian Brobbey is a standout selection after scoring a hat-trick against Manchester City. Although his side ultimately suffered a defeat, the Dutch striker demonstrated his relentless threat whenever provided with service, leaving City’s defenders unable to contain him.

Antoine Semenyo also earns a spot in the attack after scoring two goals and providing an assist in the thrilling 5-3 victory.
