Cairo – On October 17, Reuters reported that Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al‑Sisi announced that his six‑year presidential term will conclude in 2030, saying the question of his departure has been settled and that any constitutional change will not be contemplated. “The Egyptian constitution will not be touched,” he stated, adding that the matter is now definitively concluded.
At 71, Sisi is serving a six‑year term after re‑winning the presidency in December 2023. Amendments adopted in a 2019 referendum expanded the presidential term from four to six years and permitted al‑Sisi to seek a third election, allowing him to remain in office until 2030.
The former general rose to power in 2013 by overthrowing the country’s first democratically elected leader, Mohamed Mursi, following massive protests against his rule.
He voiced these remarks on Saturday while presiding over the graduation ceremony for incoming classes at the Egyptian Military Academy.
