Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has constituted a high-level committee to review the proposed reforms to the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) policy, aimed at addressing issues related to pricing, supply chain efficiency, and consumer access across Pakistan.
The newly formed body will examine the draft policy in detail, assessing its potential impact on domestic consumers, industries, and the overall energy sector. Key areas of focus include subsidy mechanisms, import duties, distribution networks, and measures to prevent smuggling and illegal trade.
The initiative comes as part of broader efforts to stabilize energy prices and ensure sustainable access to cleaner cooking fuels. The committee is expected to submit its recommendations within the next three months, after which final decisions on implementation will be made in consultation with relevant stakeholders.
The move has been welcomed by energy experts, who emphasize the importance of a comprehensive review to safeguard public interest while promoting market transparency and competitiveness in the LPG sector.
