EXCLUSIVE: The Assassin‘s second season is already attracting a global slate of buyers.

Season 2 of the Prime Video series — co‑produced by Australia’s Stan and Germany’s ZDF — has been secured by a range of networks and streamers that also aired Season 1. The recommission was announced in February, following earlier development reports from November.

Buyers include Canada’s Bell Media (Crave, CTV Drama Channel), NBCUniversal Latin America (Universal+ pan‑territory), NPO (Netherlands), SVT (Sweden), TV2 (Norway), DR (Denmark), Cosmote (Greece), VRT (Flemish Belgium), Hot (Israel) and Sky (New Zealand).

These agreements follow earlier sales to YLE (Finland), Pickbox (the Balkans), RTBF Auvio (Flemish Belgium), SIA Tet (Latvia), LRT (Lithuania), Freedom Media (Kazakhstan) and Canal+ (Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia) for Season 1.

Set on a remote Greek island, Season 1 followed retired assassin Julie (Keeley Hawes) and her estranged son Edward (Freddie Highmore) as they were forced to collaborate on a survival battle, raising questions about Edward’s paternity and Julie’s perilous history.

Season 2, now in post‑production, continues after Edward and Julie return from a tumultuous Berlin trip that leaves them estranged. Julie reverts to her assassin’s ways while navigating a fraught dating scene; Edward’s honeymoon with Kayla (Shalom Brune‑Franklin) falters, prompting him to rejoin Julie in confronting Spain’s corrupt underworld.

The Assassin Season 2 is produced by All3Media’s Two Brothers Pictures for Prime Video (UK), ZDF and Stan, in partnership with All3Media International. Founders Harry and Jack Williams wrote and created the six‑episode season and serve as executive producers alongside Sarah Hammond, Alex Mercer and Daisy Mount. Keeley Hawes and Freddie Highmore also executive produce; John Griffin produces, with Terry McDonough directing episodes 1‑3 and Sarah O’Gorman directing episodes 4‑6. Casting is handled by Jessica Mescall, and Halo Pictures provided service support in Malta, where the series was filmed.

Italian Global Series Honor

Lisa Mulcahy, director of Season 1, will be honored at this week’s Italian Global Series Festival, which will also pay tribute to figures such as Natasha Lyonne and Richard Gadd.

All3Media International will attend the festival with Potboiler’s espionage thriller Secret Service, starring Gemma Arterton. The series is scheduled for its Italian premiere on 5 July as part of the competition program.
