The partisan pattern is familiar.

Nothing about it is new or surprising. The tendency has been observed for decades, including during past efforts to make Hillary Clinton president.

What veteran actor Mandy Patinkin did on Friday, however, became another matter.

The Jewish star, best known for movies such as “The Princess Bride” and “Yentl,” endorsed Abdul El-Sayed. The Michigan Democrat is running for the Senate, and he has faced intense criticism over his record.

To some critics, the assessment was being generous.

The criticism was far more pointed. He has on record written a letter supporting the Muslim Brotherhood, which critics describe as a designated terrorist organization, while asking it to “purge the media and the police.”

He has also faced criticism over family ties to the group.

He has said that Israel is not America’s ally, a statement critics found difficult to reconcile.

He has campaigned with Hasan Piker, a commentator with strong anti-Israel views.

He has refused to say whether Israel has the right to exist.

Given that context, here is what Patinkin said about El-Sayed.

Help get @abdulelsayed elected to the senate! Jewish safety depends on a real multiracial democracy [emphasis added]—and Abdul is the one fighting to protect it.

We know how much it matters to live in a country where our rights are protected, where the law applies equally to everyone, and where the majority can’t just decide that some people don’t deserve the same freedoms. The safety and freedom we’ve found in America didn’t happen by accident. They exist because of democracy. And protecting democracy means protecting Jewish safety, too.

Author and commentator Gad Saad (“Suicidal Empathy”) did not hold back in criticizing the actor, calling him a “Self-Loathing Degenerate, Lobotomized Wood Cricket Jew.”

Former mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt also blasted Patinkin on X.

“In order to protect the flock, we must give the henhouse keys to the fox. The fox understands the dangers we face better than anyone!”

Five for Fighting singer John Ondrasik appeared stunned by the actor’s position.

We’ll let Vince Langman have the final word.
