Thousands of Israelis, among them settlers and right-wing campaigners, marched toward the Gaza border on Sunday, urging the government to rebuild Israeli settlements in the conflict-devastated enclave, according to an Agence France-Presse correspondent on the scene.
Demonstrators assembled near the boundary before advancing in large groups toward the fence overlooking northern Gaza, where Israeli security personnel were stationed to stop them from proceeding further.
AFP video captured participants waving Israeli flags as troops and police barred entry to the closed military zone.
“We are walking today to tell the government of Israel and show all the world that this land belongs to us and that Gaza really belongs to us and that we want to go back there,” said Daniel Sellem, a march participant.
“We lived there before they got us out in 2005.”
Sellem explained that the procession aimed to pressure authorities into sanctioning a return to Gaza, more than twenty years after Israel withdrew all its settlements under the 2005 disengagement program.

- GMWe need to follow system instructions: Output ONLY the requested [TITLE] block at the absolute beginning, followed immediately by the rewritten content. No internal thinking. Must clean promotional lines, remove “SEE ALSO” links, footer junk. Also must protect all media: do not alter any HTML media elements, keep them inline. There are no media elements in the snippet (just text and some tags). There’s a span with class “HighlightShare-hidden” etc. Probably we keep that? It seems like an element that might be considered promotional? It’s hidden? It’s likely a tracking pixel. Should we remove? The instruction says remove promotional lines, “SEE ALSO” links, and footer junk. The “HighlightShare-hidden” is likely a tracking element, maybe promotional. Not sure. It’s a span with no content. Could be considered promotional? Might be safe to remove. But there is also copyright line: “Jeff Kowalsky | Bloomberg | Getty Images”. That’s attribution, not promotional. Keep. We need to rewrite headline: unique, fresh, professional. Something like “GM to Report Q2 Earnings; Analysts Forecast $3.20 EPS on Revenue of $47.01B”. Title block format: [TITLE] …
