This clash pits the reigning UEFA Champions League winners against the Europa League champions, with PSG aiming to secure back-to-back Super Cup victories.
PSG reached the final after defeating Arsenal in the 2025-26 UEFA Champions League final. The match went to a penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw through regular and extra time, with the Parisian club prevailing 5-4 to claim their second consecutive Champions League title.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa earned their place in the Super Cup by securing the UEFA Europa League title with a commanding 3-0 victory over SC Freiburg at Türk Telekom Stadium. The win marked manager Unai Emery’s fifth Europa League triumph across six final appearances.
PSG and Aston Villa have faced each other twice previously, both times during the 2024-25 UEFA Champions League quarterfinals. PSG won the first leg 3-1 at home, but Villa responded with a 3-2 victory in the return leg, ultimately falling 5-4 on aggregate.

PSG Victory: Securing Consecutive Super Cup Glory
Should PSG emerge victorious, they would capture the UEFA Super Cup for the second consecutive year. Since the competition adopted a single-match format in 1998, there is no second leg available for Aston Villa to seek redemption.
Such a win would also position PSG as only the third club in history to achieve back-to-back Super Cup titles, joining AC Milan (1989, 1990) and Real Madrid (2016, 2017) in this exclusive group.
Additionally, the triumph would elevate manager Luis Enrique to sole possession of third place on the all-time list for managers, with three Super Cup victories. This milestone would place him one ahead of Pep Guardiola and two behind Carlo Ancelotti, the record holder with five titles.
Draw Outcome: Instant Penalty Shootout Decides Champion
If the match ends in a draw after 90 minutes of regulation, the winner will be determined immediately through a penalty shootout. UEFA regulations eliminate extra time from the Super Cup, ensuring the contest concludes efficiently.
This means the game will feature two 45-minute halves with added stoppage time, followed directly by a shootout if the score remains level at full time.
PSG Defeat: Aston Villa Claims Second Super Cup Title
Conversely, if Aston Villa secure victory, they would claim the UEFA Super Cup for the second time, adding to their historical 1982 triumph. For PSG, this would represent their first-ever loss in a Super Cup final, adjusting their record to 1-1 in the competition.
More significantly, this outcome would deliver manager Unai Emery his first-ever UEFA Super Cup trophy. Despite his extensive experience in the competition—thanks to five prior Europa League victories—Emery had previously encountered defeats in each of his four prior Super Cup appearances against Champions League winners.
