ISLAMABAD, Oct 7 (APP): The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) benchmark KSE-100 Index extended its upward trajectory on Wednesday, climbing 120.30 points, or 0.07 percent, to finish at 168,580.41. This marks an improvement over the 168,460.11 points logged in the preceding trading session.
In the ready market, trading activity picked up, with 586.861 million shares exchanged, up from 432.015 million shares the prior day. Correspondingly, the traded value rose to Rs 22.365 billion from Rs 20.139 billion.
Total market capitalization expanded to Rs 18.747 trillion, edging up from Rs 18.712 trillion recorded a day earlier.
Participation breadth was positive, as 272 of the 501 listed companies in the ready market posted gains, while 184 recorded losses and 45 remained steady.
K-Electric Ltd. topped the volume charts with 82.659 million shares, trailed by Cnergyico PK at 68.756 million shares and Pak Refinery at 44.141 million shares.
Among standout performers, Unilever Pakistan Foods Limited jumped Rs 440.02 to close at Rs 25,680.00, while Hoechst Pakistan Limited rose Rs 55.75 to settle at Rs 3,979.04.
Conversely, on the downside, Nestle Pakistan Limited dipped Rs 30.66 to end at Rs 6,995.19, and S.S.Oil Mills Limited dropped Rs 28.92 to Rs 401.66.
In the derivatives futures (DFC) market, turnover reached 174.910 million shares valued at Rs 8.472 billion, a notable increase from the 125.121 million shares worth Rs 7.168 billion seen in the previous session.
Breadth in the DFC market favored buyers, with 176 of the 296 traded companies advancing, 115 declining, and 5 holding steady.
