Punjab Govt Replaces Rawalpindi’s Top Administrative, Revenue, and Police Officials

RAWALPINDI: The Punjab government carried out a significant restructuring of Rawalpindi’s administrative and police leadership on the night of Friday. Multiple senior posts, including the commissioner, deputy commissioner, city police officer, chief traffic police, and key revenue officials, were replaced.

Commissioner Abdul Aamer Khattak has been transferred and directed to report to the Services and General Administration department with immediate effect. Deputy Commissioner Dr. Hassan Waqar Cheema is likewise reassigned to Services and General Administration. Capt. (ret.) Nadeem Nasir, formerly deputy commissioner of Faisalabad, has been appointed as the new Deputy Commissioner of Rawalpindi.

Capt. (ret.) Sheheryar Sherazi, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue), has been transferred to Services and General Administration and succeeded by Capt. (ret.) Tayyab Sami Khan. Assistant Commissioner Saddar Hakim Khan was also moved, with Muhammad Akhter of Kot Momin taking over as his replacement.

City Police Officer Syed Khalid Mehmood Hamdani has been transferred to the Central Police Office in Lahore, Punjab. Hassan Mushtaq Sukhera is named as the new City Police Officer for Rawalpindi.

For the first time, all principal positions within Rawalpindi’s division administration and local police have been changed simultaneously, marking a historic turnover from the commissioner level down to assistant commissioners.

While sources note that issues surrounding land use along the Rawalpindi Ring Road have influenced the shifts—prompting a change in project oversight to revenue‑related district officials—the exact rationale behind the extensive reshuffle remains unclear, sparking various speculations.

Former Commissioner Abdul Aamer Khattak, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Hassan Waqar Cheema, and CPO Syed Khalid Hamdani were originally appointed during Mohsin Naqvi’s tenure and had held their posts for the past three years.
