Punjab Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb confirmed on Thursday that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz underwent major surgery at Sharif Medical City Hospital in Lahore.
In a post on X, Aurangzeb wrote: “Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz underwent major surgery at Sharif Medical City Hospital, after which she has been shifted home.”
He added that, despite being hospitalized, the chief minister continued to oversee security, cleanliness, and other administrative matters in the province on the first day of Eid.
Information Technology Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja responded to Aurangzeb’s post by wishing Maryam a speedy recovery and good health.
National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq also posted a message of support, praising her commitment to public service and leadership during her recovery.
In November 2024, CM Maryam was admitted to Sharif Medical City Hospital for health concerns, during which her thyroid was examined, according to Aurangzeb.
Earlier this year, Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari denied reports claiming that CM Maryam was battling cancer, calling the rumors “absolutely false news” and “condemnable propaganda.”
She noted that the journalist who was cited in the rumors later clarified that he had not made such statements about the chief minister’s health.
