DUBAI: Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani hosted French President Emmanuel Macron at Lusail Palace on Monday evening for official talks, marking the first state visit by a French leader to the Gulf nation.
Sheikh Tamim expressed his aspiration to further strengthen Qatar’s bilateral partnership with France across various fields, according to the state news agency QNA.
The two sides reviewed bilateral cooperation and the strategic partnership between the two countries, and explored ways to enhance them in sectors such as the economy, investment, security, and defense, QNA reported.
Macron is currently touring Gulf states; earlier this week he met with leaders of Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain. He has secured an additional 200,000 tonnes of diesel per month from the UAE and Bahrain to help lower fuel prices in France, the French presidency said.
