Queensland Man Charged with Murder Following Discovery of Believed Missing Mother’s Remains
Queensland Police have charged a 48‑year‑old man with a domestic‑violence murder after a body, believed to be that of missing mother Jana Armstrong, was discovered overnight in bushland off Esk Hampton Road in Redbank Creek, northeast of Toowoomba.
The remains were found in a secluded area of the bushland, which police have now declared a crime scene pending further forensic examination. While the remains had not yet been formally identified by 7:30 am on the day of the report, investigators believed they matched Armstrong—who was last seen in Newtown on 7 July and has remained missing since.
Police announced that a search warrant had been executed at a property on West Street in nearby Harristown, where detectives arrested the suspect. He is charged with one count of domestic‑violence murder.
The accused is scheduled to appear at the Toowoomba Magistrates Court the following day. Police have called on anyone with information, or who may have relevant CCTV or dashcam footage—particularly along Esk Hampton Road and the New England Highway between 10:30 pm on 7 July and 1:30 am on 8 July—to come forward and assist with the investigation.
