Rabbit, the company behind the much-maligned R1 device, is introducing a standalone AI agent that can be used independently of its hardware, according to a report by Wired. The company’s new OS3 “agentic operating system” operates in the cloud while running locally across Windows, Mac, and Linux devices.
According to Rabbit, users can connect up to five devices to a single account and configure their preferred AI models. OS3 will automatically identify the necessary devices, files, applications, and AI models required to complete a given task. The agent is also accessible through a dedicated desktop website, paired messaging apps such as Telegram or iMessage, and of course, on the R1 device itself.
Although Rabbit founder Jesse Lyu told Wired that the company has ceased manufacturing R1 devices, it is not abandoning AI hardware altogether. Instead, Rabbit is developing a new vibe-coding “cyberdeck” that will run OS3, expected to launch within “months,” per Wired.
Rabbit states that OS3 will not store, copy, use, or sell user data. However, it notes that chats and any memories derived from them will continue to be retained on its servers. Third-party AI providers integrated with OS3 will also handle user data according to their own privacy policies.
