Down goes Rafael Jodar! The up-and-coming Spaniard, competing as the 12th seed, was defeated in straight sets by China’s Bu Yunchaokete.

It was a challenging outing for Jodar. He landed just 52 percent of his serves and committed 37 unforced errors compared to only 15 winners.

Jodar arrived at this tournament with considerable momentum, having reached the final in Washington D.C. and the semifinals at the Canadian Open, following a quarterfinal appearance at the French Open.

This marked his first Grand Slam appearance with genuine expectations attached to his name. Compounded by the demanding New York humidity, those factors likely shaped his performance today, leaving him with clear areas to address as he departs Flushing Meadows.
