Raleigh’s Historic Three-Homer Night Powers Mariners Past Phillies, Snaps Philadelphia’s Nine-Game Streak

Cal Raleigh etched his name into the Seattle record books Monday night, becoming the first Mariners player to hit three home runs in a single game at T-Mobile Park. His historic performance fueled a 9-2 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies, halting the visitors’ nine-game winning streak.

The last Seattle player to accomplish a three-homer feat at home was Hall of Famer Edgar Martinez, who did so on May 18, 1999, at the Kingdome shortly before the franchise moved across the street. Julio Rodriguez and Cole Young also went deep for the Mariners, who have won three of their last four contests. Logan Gilbert (11-7) earned the win, allowing two runs on five hits over five innings. J.T. Realmuto homered for Philadelphia, while Zack Wheeler (10-5) absorbed the loss after surrendering eight runs on nine hits in just four-plus innings.

Michael Conforto and Carson Kelly hit back-to-back home runs to highlight a three-run sixth inning, and Kevin Gausman threw seven scoreless innings as Chicago blanked Arizona in Phoenix. Conforto, who also doubled and singled, has homered in back-to-back games; the Cubs have launched 12 home runs over their last four contests. Nick Gonzales’ RBI single up the middle in the top of the 12th scored automatic runner Jared Triolo, giving Pittsburgh a road win over San Diego. The hit made a winner of Kirby Yates (2-5), who escaped a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the 11th, while Jeremiah Estrada (2-3) took the loss. The Pirates halted a three-game slide and snapped the Padres’ three-game winning streak. Braxton Ashcraft gave Pittsburgh six solid innings, allowing one run on four hits. Robbie Ray permitted two runs over 5 1/3 innings for San Diego.

Giants 5, Reds 0

Rafael Devers blasted a three-run homer and five San Francisco relievers combined on a five-hit shutout after starter Carson Whisenhunt exited with forearm pain in the third inning. Drew Gilbert doubled twice and scored two runs as the Giants ended a four-game losing streak. Jason Foley (1-1) struck out three of the four batters he faced to earn the win. Cincinnati ace Chase Burns (14-3) lasted just 3 2/3 innings, surrendering season-high-tying totals of five runs and nine hits. Tyler Stephenson had two hits for the Reds, who have lost three of four on their nine-game road trip.

Jonathan Aranda drove in two runs, including a solo home run, and Drew Rasmussen pitched six strong innings to lead Tampa Bay past Detroit, handing the Tigers their sixth consecutive loss. Kumar Rocker (5-10) worked effectively into the sixth inning for his first win since July 27, allowing two runs on five hits over 5 2/3 innings. The Rangers scored in five of their first six at-bats to build a commanding lead and move within a half-game of the idle Houston Astros atop the AL West. Tristan Peters hit a two-run homer for Chicago, while Jose Urquidy (2-2) was tagged for five runs in three innings.
