Just as individuals favor either left or right hand, certain brands lean toward autumn collections while others gravitate toward spring. Arnar Már Jónsson and Luke Stevens’s Ranra falls into the former category. “Our primary focus has always been outerwear suited to colder climates,” Stevens noted, “but for this season we wanted to strip that back and craft a wardrobe that feels summer‑ready, without losing our core design philosophy.” To achieve this, the duo revisited the bold, vibrant silhouettes of their acclaimed autumn line, reimagining them in lightweight, breathable fabrics. The subdued color palette is enlivened by iridescent finishes and textured weaves—one example being a specially developed nylon with a plush, pile‑like surface.
Ranra’s hallmark lies in merging elegance with functionality, placing fabric innovation at the forefront. Jónsson and Stevens’s designs exhibit a refined delicacy and subtlety—think the scoop‑neck over‑vest or an outfit where three shades of red harmonize effortlessly. For spring they introduce a zip‑front jacket paired with double‑pleated trousers as a sleek alternative to a tracksuit, complemented by shirts, shorts, and additional pants to complete the lineup.
Many items evoke the spirit of early Giorgio Armani, a reference that surfaced repeatedly this season—though Jónsson and Stevens have long acknowledged Armani as a touchstone. “The way sportswear blended into everyday dressing during that period is something we continually revisit,” Stevens explained. “Performance wear doesn’t have to mimic athleisure or today’s notion of performance; instead, ease and functionality were woven into the aesthetic of those ’80s inspirations.”
These qualities appear in the current lineup, yet the collection feels somewhat repetitive, leaving a desire for the vibrant energy last season’s color explosion provided. Notably, the Icelandic horses that inspired the spring accessories possess five gaits instead of the typical four. This detail underscores that Jónsson and Stevens are progressing deliberately, at their own rhythm, demonstrating that fashion has room for such considered evolution.
