Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho will make adjustments to his defense and midfield for the Friday night La Liga fixture against Real Betis.
Having secured three straight wins since Mourinho’s return to the Spanish capital, Madrid are keeping pressure on defending champions FC Barcelona at the top of the table.
In the back line, Ibrahima Konaté is expected to replace Antonio Rüdiger, partnering Dean Huijsen at the heart of the defense to help Thibaut Courtois keep a clean sheet.
Rüdiger started Sunday’s 4-0 victory over Málaga, but Mourinho is likely to opt for the French defender instead.
At right‑back, Denzel Dumfries is set to replace Trent Alexander‑Arnold on the bench, with the Dutch signing from Inter Milan having made a strong early impression.
Having taken over from Álvaro Carreras after his mistake in the season’s home opener against Real Sociedad, Marc Cucurella has cemented his spot at left‑back.
Midfield changes are also on the cards. Eduardo Camavinga and Brahim Díaz are the notable omissions from the pivot and right‑wing positions respectively.
As a result, Bernardo Silva will join Fede Valverde in a double‑pivot behind Jude Bellingham. Flanking Bellingham on the right, Arda Güler will look to showcase his creative abilities.
Vinícius Jr. will occupy the left‑wing role, while Kylian Mbappé – a four‑goal threat – leads the line and aims to challenge Barcelona’s Raphinha for the Pichichi award.
Mourinho’s Pre‑Match Remarks
“It has to be a great Real Madrid. If not, it will not win. Betis, as you say, are a very good team and Real Madrid’s latest results there… Well, they are very… objectives. It’s difficult, it’s difficult to win there. And to win you have to be at your highest level. There is no other.”
“There is a pressure [here] that does not exist in other championships, which is to always have to win. There are championships in which champions don’t always have to win. The champions in France or Germany have the peace of mind of ‘we already know that we are going to be champions’. It’s hard here. There’s this pressure here, week after week. Where a result other than winning is not a good result. And that’s it. This pressure has an important weight in teams that have to play a league with these characteristics.”
