French authorities have reported forty heatwave-related drowning deaths since June 18, as extreme temperatures reach unprecedented levels in several major cities across the continent.
In response to the intensifying heat, various mitigation measures have been implemented throughout Western Europe to assist the public in managing the extreme conditions.
Reporting from Nice, where a high-heat alert is currently active with temperatures climbing between 30°C and 35°C (86°F to 95°F), BBC’s Pierre-Antoine Denis provides further details on the situation.
