Reds Secure Young Pitching Star Chase Burns With Landmark $105M Extension

This week has been quiet across MLB with the All-Star Break, but the Cincinnati Reds made a major move on Thursday by reportedly agreeing to a significant contract extension with right-hander Chase Burns.

Per MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand, the Reds and Burns have reached agreement on a seven-year, $105 million deal covering the 2027 through 2033 seasons. The club has not officially confirmed the agreement, but reports indicate it contains no options or deferred money.

Burns, 23, is in his second Major League season and recently earned his first All-Star selection. The second overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft has been outstanding this year, posting an 11-1 record with a 2.54 ERA, a 1.11 WHIP and 4.2 WAR.

One of the hardest throwers in the game, Burns is now positioned to anchor Cincinnati’s rotation for years to come. The extension keeps him under team control through his age-30 campaign, securing his prime years for the Reds.

If he maintains this level of performance, Burns is likely to collect multiple additional All-Star honors and could contend for one or more NL Cy Young Awards by the end of the deal.
