The Reform UK leader of Leicestershire County Council has announced his resignation following the leak of remarks about staff redundancies.
Dan Harrison announced on Monday that he will resign from his position, which he has held since May 2025.
He said the decision came after consulting with senior Reform colleagues, and noted that deputy council leader Kevin Crook has assumed the role of acting leader.
The remarks, captured on video, included Harrison stating that 76 council solicitors would be made redundant, describing them as “incompetent”, and then saying he wanted to focus on “the women”.
In a statement, Harrison described it as the “honour of his life” to lead the county council’s inaugural Reform administration.
Harrison added that he will remain a councillor, representing the Ashby-de-la-Zouch division.
The Conservative opposition at County Hall had urged Harrison to resign after his comments about staff were leaked.
In the recording, Harrison stated that 76 solicitors would be made redundant.
“We will contract external services because they are incompetent and are not performing well.”
“My immediate focus is on the women’s issues, which I want to address promptly; however, I caution that a sudden wave of large‑scale redundancies could cause the Liberal Democrats to withdraw their support.”
