Released Palestinian Journalist’s Shocking Post-Detention Images Reveal Severe Health Decline Amid Prison Rights Concerns]
A prisoner advocacy organization reported Wednesday that images of Palestinian journalist Mujahid Bani Mufleh following six months of Israeli detention highlight dire conditions in Israeli prisons, according to Anadolu News Agency.
The Palestinian Prisoner Society stated that Israeli prisons have become instruments of systematic harm against Palestinian detainees.
Bani Mufleh shared photographs of himself after his release, showing surgical removal of part of his skull due to medical complications incurred during detention. The images revealed significant weight loss and marked physical deterioration.
The society emphasized that Bani Mufleh represents countless Palestinians held under similar circumstances, documenting widespread abuse including torture, starvation, inadequate medical care, and psychological trauma.
They reported monitoring hundreds of recently released detainees suffering from serious health and psychological conditions, noting that many cases go unreported due to families’ fears of further arrests.
Bani Mufleh, from Beita in Nablus, was detained in June 2025 without charge under Israel’s administrative detention policy and released in January 2026. He suffered a brain hemorrhage two days after release and remains in critical condition requiring ongoing treatment.
The group additionally accused Israel of escalating violations against Palestinian journalists since the Gaza conflict, with 245 journalists arrested since October 2023.
According to Palestinian officials, Israeli actions in the West Bank since October 8, 2023 have resulted in 1,173 Palestinian deaths, 12,666 injuries, approximately 23,000 arrests, and 33,000 displaced persons.
