Leon Slater narrowly missed out on becoming the longest-reigning TNA X-Division Champion earlier this month, losing the title to Cedric Alexander in a Two Out of Three Falls match on the May 14, 2026, episode of Thursday Night iMPACT.
The defeat left Slater tied with Austin Aries at 298 days as the co-holder of the longest reign in division history, drawing considerable frustration from fans eager to see the record broken. According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, journalist Dave Meltzer detailed the likely reasoning behind the company’s decision not to extend the championship run.
Meltzer indicated that Slater is widely expected to sign with either WWE or All Elite Wrestling once his TNA contract expires, though he did not disclose the specific end date of the deal.
Slater has appeared on multiple NXT and WWE main roster events since the two promotions established a working relationship. He notably competed at John Cena’s retirement show, Saturday Night’s Main Event, in December, teaming with Je’Von Evans to challenge then-World Tag Team Champions AJ Styles and Dragon Lee.
In January 2026, during WWE’s European Tour, Slater answered an open challenge from then-United States Champion Carmelo Hayes on Friday Night SmackDown. He has yet to appear for All Elite Wrestling.
