Republican Leadership Lacks Confidence and Inclusive Messaging
LARRY KUDLOW: Call it swag, swagger, rizz, aura, or just plain messaging, the GOP doesn’t have it
Google defines “swag” as “short for ‘swagger,’ describing someone with a cool, confident, and fashionable demeanor. Having swag means your personal style and attitude are on point,” while Webster’s notes it can also signify “bold or brash self-confidence.” In today’s political context, however, neither definition applies to the Republican Party, which is struggling to project charisma.
Republicans claim inaction on critical issues like inflation-linked capital gains policies and curbing government waste while failing to propose meaningful reforms. Despite the Administration’s focus on global security—particularly countering nuclear threats from radical Islam—the GOP’s midterm election prospects crumble under mismanaged messaging and policy paralysis.
Modern terms like “rizz” (mesmerizing charisma) and “aura” (“coolness, star power”) highlight generational communication gaps. Younger voters prioritize inspiring candor and accountability, traits the GOP’s current playbook neglects. Meanwhile, legislative efforts—on topics ranging from tax reforms to voter ID—remain mired in opaque bureaucratic language that alienates average citizens.
“Building affordability and economic growth should be achievable but GOP leaders concoct convoluted rationale for inaction. Voters demand straightforward solutions, from simplifying capital gains laws to slashing fraud and funding voter ID systems—but leadership prioritizes Beltway-centered compromises over voter-centric results,”**Republican Leadership Lacks Confidence and Inclusive Messaging**
According to mainstream definitions, “swag” describes a bold, confident self-presentation characterized by style and charisma. However, modern political observers are weaponizing terms like “swagger,” “rizz” (charisma), and “aura” to critique the GOP’s current leadership for failing to project this energy. “The lack of swag isn’t just a social shortcoming—it’s symptomatic of deeper policy stagnation and messaging disconnects,”
Recent Republican inaction on voter-facing issues—like inflation-linked tax reforms and budget transparency—has amplified perceptions of political irrelevance. While the Administration focuses on countering nuclear threats from radical Islam, GOP leadership continues missteps in budgeting, affordability, and legislative clarity. Notably, the party avoids addressing practical fixes like simplifying capital gains taxation or reclaiming $100 billion annually in government waste, despite bipartisan support for these ideas.
“Our messaging exactly mirrors these priorities—or lack thereof,” writes national commentator Larry Kudlow. “Whether characterizing the party’s posture as ‘burnout’ or ‘out-of-touch,’ the GOP clearly needs to rebuild its appeal through substantive, accessible actions that resonate across generations.”

- Houthi Rebels Report Strikes on Two Saudi Oil Tankers in Red Sea</TITLE]Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi rebels have claimed responsibility for attacking two Saudi Arabian oil tankers navigating the Red Sea.Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree stated on Wednesday, “We targeted two Saudi oil tankers, named ENCELA and LAYLIA, for their violation of the blockade decision issued by the armed forces.”Saree noted that the operation utilized a combination of drones, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles. While Saudi Arabia has yet to issue a formal response, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) confirmed receiving reports of a strike. According to the UKMTO, a vessel’s master reported being hit by an unidentified projectile, resulting in an onboard fire that the crew is currently working to extinguish. The escalation follows the Houthi movement’s decision on July 20 to impose a maritime blockade on Saudi Arabia. This move comes amidst heightened volatility in Yemen, following recent airstrikes by the Yemeni government on Sanaa Airport intended to intercept Iranian flights.Saudi Arabia has consistently denied Houthi allegations regarding a siege on the Yemeni population. Additionally, critics of the Houthi movement have highlighted their refusal to accept a Jordanian proposal to restore flight connections between Amman and Sanaa. As the US-Israel conflict with Iran has caused significant disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, Saudi Arabia has sought to utilize alternative routes through the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandeb Strait to maintain oil supplies. However, these routes are now facing direct threats from Houthi operations. The Houthi campaign against shipping in the Bab al-Mandeb Strait began in October 2023, following the start of the conflict in Gaza, and continued through the announcement of a Gaza ceasefire in October 2025.The Bab al-Mandeb Strait serves as a vital global maritime artery, linking the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden. At its narrowest, the chokepoint is only 29km wide, restricting traffic to two channels for vessels moving toward or away from the Suez Canal. In 2024, approximately 4.1 billion barrels of crude and refined petroleum products—roughly five percent of the global supply—traversed this strait. Given the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz due to the US-Israel war with Iran, any closure of the Bab al-Mandeb could potentially obstruct up to 25 percent of the world’s oil and gas supply.
