Rex Orange County has announced the new album ‘Dream Fatigue’, featuring collaborations with Turnstile’s Brendan Yates, Dev Hynes and other artists.
Set for release on November 6, the album is co-executive produced by Mustafa and Dylan Wiggins, known for their work with Rosalía and Justin Bieber.
The British singer‑songwriter, whose real name is Alexander James O’Connor, has already previewed several tracks while touring. At an intimate performance at London’s Village Underground earlier this summer, Rex and Turnstile’s Brendan Yates debuted their joint song ‘Elvis’ ahead of a set at All Points East.
A few days later, Daniel Caesar invited Rex to join him on stage at The O2, where they performed their collaboration ‘Indecision’ – released in August as the first single from ‘Dream Fatigue’.
Rex has now unveiled the new single ‘Grandma Song’ alongside the album announcement, showcasing the confident, direct songwriting that has become his hallmark.
For this project, Rex Orange County stepped away from his usual solo writing process and embraced a stronger focus on collaboration.
Alongside Yates and Caesar, the record features contributions from Dev Hynes, Mustafa, dexter in the newsagent and Taylor Skye of Jockstrap.
“The more minds in the room making decisions? That equaled confusion for me,” Rex explained, before adding that collaboration has ultimately enriched his sound: “To let people in is to let them take the thing out of you as well.”
He continued, “Working with artists like Dev Hynes—a true 20‑year legend with impeccable taste—or Daniel Caesar, whose melodies flow effortlessly, or Mustafa, a gifted storyteller through lyrics, opens your eyes and pushes you to raise the bar.”
