Ripple is promoting XRP and its dollar‑backed stablecoin RLUSD as payment options for AI agents, even though the market continues to rely heavily on the USDC stablecoin.
Earlier this week, the firm launched the XRPL AI Starter Kit, a collection of developer tools designed to enable AI agents to initiate payments on the XRP Ledger, according to a release shared with CoinDesk.
The kit provides access to XRPL documentation via an MCP server that connects AI services to external data sources, includes Claude‑based functionalities for wallet creation, balance checking, and payments, and supports x402‑type transactions using both XRP and RLUSD.
Ripple argues that AI agents that need to purchase API access, pay for model inference, settle invoices, or transfer value between services require payment rails that are inexpensive, fast, and triggerable without manual approval each time.
According to the company, the XRP Ledger can deliver settlement in three to five seconds, with predictable fees, native payments, escrow, multisignature capabilities, and an integrated decentralized exchange.
The real test will be converting these technical advantages into widespread usage, especially as the novel x402 system gains traction.
