Ripple has launched a service that allows investors to trade perpetual futures on stocks and commodities around the clock, using contracts listed on Trade.xyz, a platform operating on the Hyperliquid crypto derivatives exchange. These perpetual contracts have no expiration and can be traded at any time, enabling funds to take positions even when traditional markets are closed.

Clients interact with Ripple Prime, which manages collateral and risk across positions, and can use Ripple’s dollar‑pegged RLUSD stablecoin to back their trades. Ripple connected its brokerage to Hyperliquid in February.

Nevertheless, liquidity remains a challenge; a fund seeking to execute large trades still needs a counterparty willing to trade at an acceptable price. Recent events illustrate the volatility: on Saturday, nearly $52 million in leveraged chip‑stock positions were forced to close within ten minutes as selling pressure spread from Binance to Hyperliquid. Because the underlying shares were not trading, the contracts lacked fresh pricing, highlighting the risks of these emerging markets.

HSBC expects early activity to concentrate on firms exploiting price differences between markets. The bank’s analyst noted that until deeper liquidity develops, trading will likely be dominated by market makers, proprietary trading firms, and hedge funds engaging in basis trades—strategies that profit from price gaps between related instruments—rather than by institutions seeking strategic hedges.
