The New Jersey Devils have built an impressive prospect pipeline, but Mikhail Yegorov stands out among the organization’s emerging talent. The highly-touted NHL goaltending prospect combines exceptional skill, size, and speed that has drawn significant attention throughout the hockey world.
The 20-year-old Russian wrapped up his sophomore season at Boston University earlier this year, recording a .904 save percentage, a 16-15-2 record, and two shutouts. Beyond his on-ice accomplishments, Yegorov has taken his development to the next level by creating a comprehensive personal website to track advanced statistics. Earlier this week, he took to Instagram to unveil the project he has been developing over the past six months.
Yegorov emphasizes that traditional metrics like save percentage and goals against average do not fully capture a goaltender’s performance. His platform, yegorovstats.com, will showcase over 150 different statistics to evaluate his performance throughout every game for the remainder of his career.
The website is organized into several categories, including game logs, period-by-period breakdowns, incremental statistics, and an extensive glossary. Yegorov also developed a proprietary grading system to categorize different types of shots and goals against, ranging from A+ for the highest-danger chances to low-danger Grade C opportunities.
A quick look at the website reveals the extensive time and effort Yegorov has invested in analyzing his game. Visitors can view statistics presented through bar graphs, line plots, and recent averages. Additional notable features include situational splits comparing home and away performance, actual versus expected statistics, rebound control metrics, glove performance analysis, and playmaking data.
His social media announcement concluded with the message: “Every save. Every Metric. One dashboard.” With this level of dedication to his craft, fans eagerly await the day Yegorov makes his NHL debut with the Devils.
