Robinhood is expanding its services to attract more active traders looking for flexible access beyond standard U.S. stock market hours.
The platform announced extended trading hours, new crypto perpetual contracts, and AI-powered trading tools during its HOOD Summit in Houston, Texas.
These enhancements highlight Robinhood’s shift beyond its original commission-free model, positioning itself as a go-to platform for active traders while competing with both crypto-native platforms like Coinbase and traditional brokerages such as Schwab.
In an evolving landscape where speed, access, and automation are key, retail brokerages are redefining their value proposition.
RH stock rose nearly 3% in early trading Wednesday after the announcement.
“Markets depend on traders, and traders deserve better access,” said Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev. “We’re building Robinhood into a global hub for active traders by offering institutional-grade tools directly to everyday investors.”
Beginning next year, select U.S. equities will be tradable 24/7 through Robinhood, building on its existing 24/5 offering launched in 2023. This includes expanded weekend trading windows from Sunday 8:00 PM ET to Friday 8:00 PM ET.
AI-Powered Automation
Alongside extended hours, Robinhood introduced AI-driven trading agents that empower users to automate strategies around the clock. These tools allow investors to customize algorithmic behaviors tailored to their unique approaches.
Tenev emphasized that despite decades of algorithmic dominance in trading, human insight remains irreplaceable—a trend he believes will persist even as automation advances.
“While machines drive most transactions today, there’s immense opportunity for collaboration between human intuition and AI innovation,” he explained to CNBC’s “Squawk Box.” “Each new asset class or capability—like AI or crypto—opens fresh avenues for competition and growth.”
RH also revealed upcoming support for crypto perpetual futures, enabling leveraged bets without needing to hold underlying assets outright.
