Rockingham omitted from 2027 NASCAR Cup schedule

Rockingham Speedway has been omitted from the 2027 NASCAR Cup Series schedule, marking another setback for the historic venue.

Track Enterprises confirmed the decision in a Friday press release, stating that the removal reflects ongoing uncertainties at the facility. The company expressed continued interest in exploring options to return NASCAR racing to “The Rock” in upcoming seasons.

The track is owned by the IHRA, which has faced financial challenges in recent years.

The release added that any future scheduling updates will be communicated as they become available, and Track Enterprises remains hopeful about welcoming fans back to “The Rock” eventually.

Opened in 1965, Rockingham Speedway hosted its last Cup race in 2004 before changing hands multiple times. The venue briefly returned to the Truck Series in 2012 and 2013, then secured race dates for both the NASCAR Cup and Truck Series in 2025. In 2026, the lower divisions revisited the ‘Rock’ for the Easter weekend, but those appearances will not extend into 2027.

Track Enterprises President Bob Sargent remarked, “The fan response over the past two years has been extraordinary. Bringing NASCAR back to Rockingham presented a unique chance, and the overwhelming support from fans, competitors, sponsors, local officials, and the broader community surpassed our expectations. Although we are disappointed that the track will not host NASCAR in 2027, we remain optimistic about future opportunities to restore racing at the historic venue.”

The 2027 season schedule is taking shape quickly, yet Rockingham will be absent. Fans have also expressed disappointment over the loss of the North Wilkesboro points race, though that storied North Carolina track will feature a triple‑header weekend highlighted by the All‑Star Race in 2027.
