Romano: Tottenham Have No Plans to Sell Micky van de Ven to Liverpool or Barcelona

Tottenham are not considering a sale of Micky van de Ven this summer, despite reported interest from Liverpool and Barcelona.

Fabrizio Romano has clarified that no move is currently being planned for either club, with Spurs viewing the Dutch centre-back as a central figure in Roberto De Zerbi’s project.

The message from North London is straightforward: Van de Ven is not available.

That stance will be welcomed by Tottenham supporters, particularly after a difficult campaign that has prompted the club to reassess its direction under De Zerbi.

Spurs are focused on rebuilding their identity, and retaining their strongest defensive assets is seen as just as important as bringing in new additions.

Van de Ven’s speed, recovery defending and ability to progress the ball from deep make him a strong fit for a manager who wants his team to play aggressive, front-foot football.

De Zerbi Views Van de Ven as Key Figure

Van de Ven has already spoken positively about De Zerbi’s influence since the Italian arrived at Tottenham.

In an interview with the club’s official website, the defender revealed that De Zerbi told him: “I’m going to rely on you.” The comment underlines how important the centre-back is to the new manager’s plans.

Liverpool have previously been linked with Van de Ven, while Barcelona have also been mentioned as admirers of the Netherlands international.

Football Insider has previously reported that Tottenham were reluctant to consider offers, even from major European clubs.

Liverpool Move Ruled Out

From Tottenham’s perspective, selling Van de Ven would be difficult to justify.

Spurs have already strengthened their defensive options with the confirmed signing of Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton, but that does not change their position on Van de Ven.

Tottenham’s stance remains firm. Van de Ven is viewed as essential to De Zerbi’s plans, Liverpool and Barcelona are not expected to make progress, and Spurs intend to build around him rather than cash in.

While Van de Ven is not expected to leave, Liverpool are still looking to add a new centre-back, particularly after Ibrahima Konate’s departure to Real Madrid, and are expected to accelerate their search soon.
