MI New York 132 for 8 (De Kock 61, Stoinis 3-14, Baartman 2-23, Jasdeep 2-36) defeated the Seattle Orcas 127 for 9 by five runs
The two matches in Pomona during the MLC 2026 season have generally featured sluggish batting performances. In a 37.1-over encounter on Wednesday, 228 runs were posted and 14 wickets fell. MI New York and the Seattle Orcas combined for 259 runs while losing 17 wickets. MI New York edged the match by five runs, finishing with 132 to climb to second place on the table, while the Orcas dropped to third.
Five of the six franchises now sit on six points apiece, with their rankings determined by net run‑rate, whereas the Los Angeles Knight Riders have four points and occupy the bottom position.
Orcas captain Marcus Stoinis won the toss and elected to have MI New York bat. The innings was anchored by Quinton de Kock, who amassed 61 runs from 46 balls, including six fours and two sixes. His notable partnerships included a 47‑run stand with Nicholas Pooran off 37 deliveries for the second wicket, and a 35‑run partnership with Tajinder Singh off 30 balls for the third wicket.
The scoring rates in those partnerships highlighted the difficulty the batters faced, as the Orcas bowlers frequently took wickets. Stoinis was the most effective bowler, delivering three wickets for 14 runs, while Jasdeep Singh and Ottneil Baartman each claimed two wickets.
De Kock’s runs and the two partnerships he was involved in ultimately decided the low‑scoring contest. Six Orcas partnerships reached double figures, but none exceeded 19 runs before the tenth‑wicket partnership with Stoinis and Jasdeep.
Wickets fell early, with the Orcas reduced to 31 for 3 midway through the seventh over, and continued to tumble until Stoinis, batting at No. 6, steadied the innings. The principal wicket‑taker was Romario Shepherd, who claimed three wickets for 16 runs and was later awarded Player of the Match, dismissing Tim Seifert, Shehan Jayasuriya and Shimron Hetmyer.
Stoinis struck 36 from 31 balls, and his late surge of 30 runs, including two identical 15‑run overs from Jasdeep, gave the Orcas a glimmer of hope. However, when Stoinis was dismissed on the second ball of the final over by Kieron Pollard, the Orcas’ prospects vanished.
