Cristiano Ronaldo has departed Portugal’s training camp after being omitted from the recent Nations League match against Norway by manager Jorge Jesus.
The Al Nassr forward, regarded as one of football’s all‑time greats and a national legend, was surprisingly left out of Portugal’s lineup for Sunday’s 2‑1 victory over Norway.
There is little doubt that the 41‑year‑old is approaching the twilight of his career, raising questions about whether he can still perform at the international level.
While he has been prolific in the Saudi Pro League with Al Nassr, his recent appearances for Portugal have suggested a loss of pace, to the point where he appears to be a hindrance to his teammates.
Unhappy with his omission, Ronaldo reportedly stormed down the tunnel and left the national team squad shortly after the match.

Cristiano Ronaldo statement on Portugal exit
Ronaldo posted on Instagram: “After the press conference of the national team and following a conversation with the president of the Portuguese Football Federation, I have decided to leave the national team training camp.” The remark was reported by BBC Sport.
Portugal manager Jorge Jesus responded, stating there had been “no incident whatsoever.” He added, “Any player – and I was a player myself – when you spend 20 or 30 minutes warming up and then don’t get on, no‑one is happy about that.” “If I need him, he’ll come on. If I don’t need him, he won’t,” Jesus concluded.
