Ronaldo scored in the 22nd minute of Al-Nassr’s 2-1 victory over Abha on September 9, 2026. He met an Angelo corner with a powerful downward header, but the ball struck the post before crossing the line. The goal gave him 979 career goals and helped Al-Nassr respond to its recent defeat by Al-Ittihad.
The importance of the strike was clear in the wider record race. Al-Nassr’s win against Abha extended its run of 93 consecutive Saudi Pro League matches in which it scored, a streak that began in December 2023.
The Riyadh club had already claimed the domestic record earlier in the 2026-27 campaign. Al-Nassr became the first side in Saudi Pro League history to score in 89 successive league matches, passing Al-Hilal’s previous record of 88.

Passing Al-Hilal was only one milestone. With the Abha goal, Al-Nassr matched 93 consecutive league appearances in which it found the net, equaling the record set by Argentine club River Plate. River Plate reached the same total between 1936 and 1939, making it one of the longest-standing marks in international football.
The achievement is even more impressive because Al-Nassr has maintained the run across several seasons, managers and changing squads. Although major international stars have reshaped the Saudi Pro League in recent years, the club has continued to produce goals with remarkable consistency.
Another scoring game could secure history
Al-Nassr is now one league match away from claiming the global benchmark outright, provided River Plate’s 93-match sequence remains the relevant record. The club does not need to win or score multiple times: one goal would be enough to surpass the mark.
The streak has also depended on contributions beyond Ronaldo. The Portuguese forward remains central to Al-Nassr’s attack, but the record has endured because different players have repeatedly delivered decisive goals and the team has continued to create chances under changing circumstances.
For Ronaldo, the match against Abha offered further evidence that his influence remains formidable. At 41 years old, he played the full 90 minutes and was named Al-Nassr’s man of the match for the second time this season.
