Multiple NASCAR Cup Series teams faced penalties at North Wilkesboro after failing technical inspections on several occasions.
Austin Hill, driving the No. 33 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet, and Connor Zilisch, in the No. 88 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet, both failed inspection twice. Consequently, both teams will have a crew member ejected for the remainder of the race weekend—typically the car chief—and will forfeit their pit stall selection.
The most significant sanctions were leveled against Ross Chastain and the No. 1 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet due to three separate inspection failures.
In addition to having his car chief ejected, Chastain will be forced to start from the rear of the 37-car field and will lose his pit stall selection. While he was originally slated to start 13th due to a rain-out during qualifying, he will also be assessed a pass-through penalty under green flag conditions. This will result in him falling at least one lap down on the demanding short track.
Chastain currently sits 20th in the championship standings, trailing the Chase cut-line by 45 points. He enters this event with a streak of six consecutive top-20 finishes and is looking to build on his third-place All-Star Race performance at North Wilkesboro from last year.
Ryan Blaney and Ty Gibbs are scheduled to lead the field to the green flag.
